Vivian Maier exhibit

Took these at the Jeffrey Goldstein collection exhibit of Vivian Maier, as well as some other local artists. The exhibit is at The Fruit in Durham, today from 1:00 until 6:00, last day.

  1. Love her work. I think it’s almost impossible these days to do what she did, documenting every day life. I’m sure some people wondered why she was taking their photo, but I’m guessing people weren’t as wary today. And today people are wise to be wary. Great photos – anyone ever tell you that you and Anthony Hopkins look related?

    • She was quite the genius actually. She had a tremendous hit rate with her trusty Rolleflex, never shot multiples or bracketed. Being female probably helped her get as close to people as she did. Jeff Goldstein, who had the second largest collection of stuff, the guy who now is a fan of mine, put on the exhibit. He now lives in Durham, as does Ron Gordon, the master dark room printer who printed a huge amount of her work from existing negatives as well as from rolls that were developed after her death. Ron made the print of my photo, what an honor. And yes, you’re not the first to mention Anthony Hopkins. Nice to see you poke your head out.

  2. I think I would’ve loved this exhibit. I’m reading Ann Marks’ Vivian Maier Developed: The Untold Story of the Photographer Nanny,, right now, an attempt by me to study more about the masters and forerunners in photography. I’ve been utterly riveted by Maier’s story.

I’m glad to see Scott surfacing here. He was probably singlehandedly responsible for keeping me from giving up on my journal on WordPress, a few years ago!

Not much more than a dad blogger however I have admired your work from afar the past couple years (Scott has given you some nice props), there has been a good progression in your photography (and zines, it looks like).
